The Ten Mile House

On a recent night out at the Ten Mile House, I found myself in an intriguing conversation with a member of one of the bands playing that evening. "I'm surprised," he said. "I've always heard this was a rough and tumble kinda place. I was scared when I found out we were booked here."

"Rough and tumble? Really?" I asked.

"Yeah, but it's not at all! The atmosphere's great and that burger was delicious. I've lived down the street for years and never thought of setting foot in here! Now I know I'm gonna be back."

After that night I investigated further and found that, in fact, many people had this perception of the Ten Mile House. But this is no "Roadhouse" folks. There is no cage protecting the band from flying beer bottles, there are no nightly, bloody brawls. This tavern has been perfecting the art of serving drinks for 134 years strong, making it one of the oldest taverns in South County. And while it's seen its fair share of unruly patrons over the years, the Ten Mile House of 2006 has established itself as quite the cozy little neighborhood dive bar. New owners Tony and Cindy Smith have been working literally day and night to create an intimate, comfortable environment where local music lovers can come to enjoy some of the best talent the St. Louis music scene has to offer.

Now in order to squelch these "rough and tumble" rumors I've been hearing, I sat down with one of the owners to discuss what the Ten Mile House is really all about.   Next Page
